The Scarlet Stocking Spy is a book that takes place during the Revolutionary War.  The story takes place in Philadelphia during the fall of 1977.  People didn’t know whose side they were on.  The Patriots, the British, or Spies.  But there was a little girl who had an important job and her name was Maddy Rose.  She and her brother Jonathan played a ship game called Master Harbor.  They use special codes to play this game.  Maddy uses the same codes to warn the Patriots about the British.  If you enjoy reading secret spy books you should read The Scarlet Stockings Spy.

	As the cannons roar in the fill of 1777, Maddy Rose rushes home across the streets of Philadelphia.  As she looks out at the boats in the harbor she puts the code on the clothesline.  White, white, red, white, white, red.  Jonathan appears in the night to look at the code.  The next day Maddy Rose puts up the same code and again Jonathan shows up at night.  The next night he doesn’t show up.  Where could he be?  Maddy Rose thinks of what she can do as tears fill up in her eyes…

In The Scarlet Stockings Spy there is a family that lives in Philadelphia.  They have a little brick house and they are secret spies.  They work very hard around the house to feed themselves.  Maddy is a girl that gets frightened when she hears that the British are coming and her brother is going to war.  Maddy and her mother can only hope that Jonathan will be okay.  Read this story and find out if Jonathan will make it home to his family he loves.
