| The Dexters’ are an army family that takes service in the Army so seriously that they call their father “The Colonial”. Older brother, TJ, just graduated from high school and decides to enlist while the Vietnam War is in full swing. The weird thing is that the Colonial isn’t happy and opposes TJ’s decision. When TJ goes oversees, he sends back rolls of film for his younger sister Jamie to process. The beginning film seems harmless enough, but as the film keeps coming Jamie realizes why her father was so opposed to TJ going to war. This book will help readers understand the devastation of war through the eyes of a twelve-year-old girl. Book Review by Jamie C., Grade 6, Doniphan-Trumbull Public School Meet the author, Frances O'Roark Dowell. |
