| A person’s life can have so much meaning, sometimes even more so after death. Dani, who was born with her heart on the wrong side of her body, and Amanda, a perfectly healthy competitive gymnast, are both complete strangers until a tragic death brings their lives together. After Amanda is killed in a freak accident, her family decides to donate her organs in hopes of helping others. Dani, who has spent most of her life in a hospital undergoing multitudes of tests, is the recipient of Amanda’s heart. Amanda and her family’s selfless donation helped not only Dani, but countless others, including Dani’s friend and neighbor at the hospital. Through one girl, they were all given a better, longer life. The best parts of Jill Wolfson’s story are the letters sent from the organ recipients to Amanda’s family, and Dani’s narrative of her life at the hospital. The moving, personal letters and the insights into Dani’s life hold the message that Amanda still lives on through those whom she has helped. --Book Review by Madeline Rodenbaugh, Sioux County Schools, Harrison, NE Learn about the University Of Nebraska Medical Center Transplant Center.
