The Civil War begins and the school in town is closed. Emory, left behind from the war because of his asthma, agrees to be India’s tutor. India’s parents requested the study of home economics and the Scriptures, but those subjects were soon set aside. India’s interest turned to Emory’s passions: science and medicine. Eventually, Emory went to war to help where he could and India struggles to help keep her family and friends safe as the horrors and suffering of the war alters their southern world.
Will Emory survive? Will India’s dream to go to college be fulfilled? Will they be able to break through the obstacles ahead of them in medicine and education?
This is a great story of passion, caring, bravery, pain and love.
