Jane Arrowood, 15, went for a dip in the ocean and was attacked by a shark. Her right arm was amputated above the elbow due to the severe damage.

Now Jane must find a way to start over. People from all over have sent her letters or teddy bears; Jane can’t understand why they would do that. She believes her love and talent for art is gone with her arm. The only person she can talk to about how she really feels is an eight-year-old boy who is also in the hospital.

Told in free verse poems, this story tells of Jane’s resistance and efforts to find a way back home.
