In the year 2083 there is no middle class. Only a very poor lower class and a very rich upper class exist. Public schools are closed and each child not enrolled in a private school is required to watch teleschool through the eighth grade and pass a test with a score of at least 65.
If someone wanted more education, they had to win the toss of the lottery dice or get a job. Televisions are in every home and the most popular shows are survivor reality shows.
When the ratings start to drop at her network, the Secretary of Entertainment creates a new survivor show in which five teens must reach the South Pole in a reenactment of the 1912 Robert F. Scott expedition, in which all the men perished.
Those who reach the pole win ten thousand dollars and the one voted most valuable player gets another ninety thousand dollars. Without guidance or help from adults, the five teens have two choices: survive or die. |
